'70 Greenhorn, start at PearblossomThe Greenhorn Enduro was my all-time favourite event..approximately 500 miles of relatively easy desert roads and trails over 2 days..I dearly loved this event and had the pleasure of riding it in 1970, '71, '72, and '74.

This picture at left was taken at Pearblossom in 1970 at the start of the 'Horn and that's Ed Wight on a Suzuki 250 Savage on far left, me on a Yamaha DT-1B next to him, Bryan Cochran to my right on a Yamaha, and I don't know who is on the extreme right.

This is me on the first day of the 1970 Greenhorn, between Pearblossom and Four Corners right alongside Hwy. 395..note the suspension is all bottomed out and the expansion chamber lacks a silencer. My ears rang for days afterward.

anybody know where Bryan is?And this is Bryan Cochran at Four Corners, halfway through day one of the 1970 'Horn..looks a little dusty. UPDATE: I received word from a nephew that Bryan passed away at his home in January '09.

don't I look cool in my Barbour jacket? This is me on day 2 of the 1971 'Horn..this was during my ISDT look-the-part phase of riding when I bought a Barbour jacket so I would look like all the Eastern and European six-days guys. This was a heavy cotton affair, soaked with oil so as to be water repellent, and I was wearing it in the desert where the temperature was over 100 F.

Maybe at Charlie's Place near Trona?1974 Greenhorn, me on an almost-stock Honda XL-250 which I brought from New Mexico..I broke down on the first day and finished the second day ok.

and I'd just mashed a new Olds Cutlass SupremeThis is me at the finish of the '74 Greenhorn--at a school just off Colorado Blvd. in Pasadena. Shortly before this photo was taken I'd hit a car up on the road to Mt. Wilson and did about $1000 damage to it with my left boot. Photo was taken by Merge.

here's Stan and JimThis is Roy Watson on a 250cc Bultaco Alpina at the start of the '74 Greenhorn, but the guys on the right in Desert MC colours are Jim Wells and Stan Baldwin (the guy with the beard). Roy is still active in Dist. 37 desert events and now rides KTM, at age 66...
